Don’t Cry Out Loud

“Don’t cry out loud
Just keep it inside, learn how to hide your feelings
Fly high and proud
And if you should fall, remember you almost had it all”

~Melissa Manchester

When I was growing up I always believed it was best to let people know how you feel. I thought it was better to be open and honest instead of expecting someone to read my mind. And, somewhere in my deluded mind, I thought being open that others would respect it. I actually thought that if you tell people the things that hurt or bother you that they would take the information and use it. I was wrong.

I realize people don’t change overnight. I don’t expect that. But, if you have to repeat yourself over and over again about the same thing you begin to realize that either people just don’t respect you enough to actually hear what you’re saying or they’re just too selfish to care.  What’s even worse is when they get mad at you for having feelings or, even worse, when they use what they know hurts you against you.  It’s nothing more than their way of avoiding taking any responsibility themselves.

So, the lesson here is to deal with things the best way you can and keep your feelings and honesty to yourself.  The only one who cares is you.
